Hinton is the gateway to the Rockies, is adjacent to Jasper National Park in the Alberta Rockies and is located approximately 280 km (174 mi) west of Edmonton.  Hinton is a service centre for the west Yellowhead and parks surrounding it. Hinton's tourism industry and is centred on its many recreational opportunities. Summer time provides ATV trails that go on forever, or explore the wilderness on a hike or trail ride in the Brule Sand Dunes. The drive to the Miette Hot Springs allows visitors to soak in the naturally heated mineral water while enjoying the fresh mountain air. The water hover around 40°C (104ºF).  In winter there is great snowmobiling, dog-sledding and cross-country skiing. 

There are thirteen Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centres spread throughout the province.
